You Had Me at Hello’s co-hosts, Amanda and Joey, met in 2014 on the internet. Amanda lived in Maine almost her whole life until she found an opportunity to make a change, and boom! Almost immediately after arriving in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, she emailed a guy whose profile said, “has cat, writes stuff,” and asked, “are you real?”
In their early 20s, he was in a few bands, she worked at record stores. They both went to school for film/media, and both came out writers. He’s writing comic books and crime novels and she’s working on weirdo essays that no one seems to want to publish. He loves Star Wars and she’s partial to Wes Anderson. They bond over karaoke, bowling, cats and comedy.
After getting married in Las Vegas by an Elvis impersonator across the street from an IHOP, they moved to Los Angeles with their old man cat, Reebo.
Amanda has an MFA in Creative Writing from Stonecoast at the University of Southern Maine and is revising her first memoir. Her writing has appeared in Vela Magazine, Mash Stories, the Portland Phoenix, and her favorite essay was published in Two Serious Ladies earlier this year. A piece of her heart remains in Portland, Maine.
In terms of superlatives, Amanda has seen High Fidelity more than any other movie ever.
